Personal Desires?

We got a question for you this week. Do you have desires not for your church?

You should already have big desires for your church, right? But what about personally? Do you have personal desires like you maybe getting into better shape? Or maybe to have better family relationships or maybe you have a bucket list of things that you want to accomplish, right?

And so one of my favorite verses, Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he’ll give you the desires of your heart.” What a great promise we have from God’s word, right? But consider this. The Wright brothers, they endured hundreds of failed glider attempts before their first successful flight in 1903 in Kittyhawk, North Carolina. or Thomas Edison who failed it’s said to be a thousand times or even more before inventing the incandescent light bulb in 1879.

Willingness to Pursue

You see, it was their willingness to pursue and reach that made their dreams come to life, right? It wasn’t their desires alone, was it? And so thankfully they weren’t complacent-  They reached, they had desires.

And in Mark five is a story of the woman who had the issue of blood we’re all familiar with. But the Bible says that she thought to herself, if I just touch the hem of his garment, I will be healed. You see, she did and she was healed. What an awesome story. But we see that the proof of her desire was in her pursuing and her reaching, wasn’t it? It wasn’t just her desire alone. She reached for Jesus and was healed.

And consider this. Of the 12 spies, only Joshua and Caleb entered the promised land. You see, it was their desires that were proved by their willingness to reach and pursue that got them into the promised land. The other 10 were complacent enough that they weren’t willing to reach and pursue for the blessings and benefits in the promised land.

And see, sometimes our complacency can surpass our willingness to pursue and reach. Let me say that again.

Are you Complacent

Sometimes your complacency just may pass your willingness to pursue and reach. You see, Proverbs 1 tells us that complacency destroys.

And so this week I want us to talk about at our tables one thing and that is this, what’s the one thing that you need to pursue and reach for in life that you haven’t reached for yet? And so talk about that at your tables.

We love you and we’re praying for you. God bless. Good job.
