Some people think that Paul and Peter stopped living according to the teachings found in God’s Torah or Law. But, as I read the Jewish New Testament I see that they remained faithful to following it all the days of their lives. Let’s look at a few examples.
(Acts 2:46) Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple …
The first disciples were still in the Temple worshipping God every day.
(Acts 3:1) Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer
Peter and John still went to the Temple to pray.
(Acts 21:20) And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law;
There were thousands of Messianic Jews who were still zealous (enthusiastic, passionate, and fanatical) about God’s Torah or Law. Are you as passionate for God’s Torah or Law as they were?
(Acts 21:21, 24) and [people] have been told about you [Paul], that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs. … take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law.
Some of the leaders wanted to put to rest the lies and false accusations people were making about Paul. To do this, they suggested Paul go to the Temple and worship God according to the Torah or Law to prove that there was no truth to what people were saying. These leaders and Paul wanted to make it clear that Paul still lived according to God’s Torah and Law, and that he never told any other Messianic Jews to abandon God’s Torah or Law either.
How do you feel about God’s Torah or Law?
Peter and Paul still loved God’s Torah or Law after becoming disciples of Yeshua. They continued to live their lives according to the teachings of Moses. The Torah or Law does not result in salvation, but “All Scripture (Genesis – Revelation) is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The teachings found in God’s Torah or Law will still profit you today. I trust you are as zealous as Peter and Paul about studying God’s Torah or Law. And as you do, ask God to show you how these teachings will profit you in your walk with Yeshua.
