Hey champions, pastors, I want to talk to you today about showing up– not at work or church or medical appointments or family events, but showing up socially in life, in your ordinary life. How do you interact with others?

Are You Friendly?

Are you friendly? Do you go out of your way to interact with people? Growing up without a father, Mike, our neighbor, showed up and made an impact on my brother. His conversations about going to college were monumental. And coming from a small Indiana town, college was not part of our family heritage or vocabulary. Yet, Mike’s conversations helped set the stage for my brother to go to college, which then prepared him to be a successful business owner.  Mike wasn’t a pastor, teacher, businessman, just our next door neighbor, a factoryworker, but he showed up socially initially by coming outside & playing tag football with his neighbors kids. That grew into where my brother would tag along with Mike when he did side jobs, opening the door for these life changing conversations to an invisible an unnoticed teenager. Nominal idea, right?

Who Showed Up for You

Question. Who showed up for you when you felt invisible in life? Yet they encouraged you. They were your friend, but they made a positive impact. You see Luke 5, some men showed up to a crippled man and brought him to Jesus, resulting in his healing. And if they wouldn’t have first showed up, they could have never lowered him to our Lord for his healing.

You see, Romans 12:1 says, “Take your ordinary life, your walking around life, and place it before God as an offering.” You see, we can get busy in our daily life keeping appointments, taking care of business that we effectively don’t show up socially, and we miss these golden opportunities that are hidden in our ordinary life. Think about that.

Someone showed up for you when you were invisible and obscure, but they noticed. And most importantly, it probably started with a simple conversation. How are you this week? Let’s talk about that. Do you Show Up?

Who is Invisible

Who have you showed up for recently that was invisible in life, in your ordinary life? Maybe the store clerk, the waiter, or at the gym, or your neighbor’s kids. Someone you didn’t preach at, though.

But you had a conversation that could have ultimately led them to relationship with the Lord. You see, relationships matter. Relationships win.
