Champion Groups are groups of (3-5) who meet together on a weekly basis for one hour to encourage each other, hear from each other, to discuss ”points to ponder” or anything on our minds, to set areas we want to have accountability in, and to pray for the needs of one another.
Getting Started
- The first meeting (Week 1) is a time of introduction. Share about your family, personal interests, Salvation Experience, hobbies, where you have lived, etc. Just get acquainted with one another. End each meeting by sharing Prayer needs and close with prayer.( A place on goal sheet provided to write them.)
- Note: Each Champions Group should have someone volunteer to be the contact/information person. This is a commitment to call or e-mail each group member the day before your meeting as a reminder.
- (Week 2) Share any current goals that you feel comfortable sharing.
- Examples: I need to lose 30 pounds, I need to increase my income, I want to write a book, I need to finish school, I need to spend more time with my wife, I need to read more, I need to watch less TV, I need time off/vacation, I have many debts that I need to pay-off. You get the idea. (Your Table is there to Encourage you, cheer you on, not judge or give unrequested advice.)
- Review the “Points to Ponder” Questions and discuss how your group wants to use these. (You may want to add some or revise them). Where do you want to start? How much Accountability does your group want!? (This will make a big difference in your group. If you have some who want a high level of accountability and others who do not, be patient. You who want it, go ahead and lay it out on the table each week. Watch God work. Trust HIM!)
- (Week 3) This is a very important week. It is time to start talking about the good and bad of your week. Use the “Points to Ponder as a Guideline”. You can unload or just listen. You can be reserved or let it all out. You must decide personally. Each week is different. Things happen. There is a direct relationship in what you give and what you receive.
- Each week try to set personal and specific goals. You may have one or many goals. Write them down and share with your group. ASK for Accountability and each week give a progress report. This is not a requirement for the group only a proven way to help you reach your goals while building trust and real friendships!
Special Note: If after the second week you feel uncomfortable or need to make a change for any reason, please let us know. We suggest that everyone commit to at least 7 weeks with their group. Trust and friendships will develop much more rapidly when accountability goals are set and achievements attained.
*If someone falls away or moves away please contact us. It is always fine to add someone to your Champions Group if someone moves on. Just be sure everyone is agreeable to it.
The specific purpose of a Champion Group is to help us as pastors establish relationships of trust and encouragement. When I fall short the other Champions encourage me, when they fall short I always encourage them. We never give advice or counsel unless it is asked for!!!!!!
NOTE:
During this time we focus on ourselves as men, we make it a point not to talk about church programs, church events, new church ideas, doctrine, or theology during our (1) hour time frame. This time is set aside to listen, encourage, challenge and embrace positive accountability.
